The Chaos of Job Portals in Italy: Many People are Looking for a Job but there are only Few Possibilities to Find one
It was not so known that not so many job offers are currently published by the employment services in Italy. And what are the reasons for that?
And this is the most frequent, and honest, answer to this question: Because it is almost impossible to find some new job, since every region in this country has its own portal, if not every province. And the national one for all regions together does simply not exist. No wonder if, as reported by the newspaper „Il Fatto Quotidiano“ (The Daily Facts), on the European Union's Eures portal, where there are 4.5 million offers, Germany publishes 800 thousand and Italy does worse with 45 (which are not its own).
The Meloni government has entrusted the state agency „Inps“ (National Institute for Social Security) with the latest national platform called „SIISL“ (Sistema informativo per l'inclusione sociale e lavorativa). The ambition was to make it a point of reference for the unemployed people. But access to this platform is denied to employment centres and there are few job offers on the portal.
Francesco Giubileo, an expert in labour policies, warns: „Doubling the staff dedicated to active policies today, compared to countries like Germany, we would still be 10 or 15 years behind.“
With the same question about job offers, in Germany, France and Spain, you get in fact a precise answer. And consistent with the offers published on the Eures portal. The „Servicio publico de empleo estatal“, the Spanish „Sepe“, offers for example 49 thousand job positions. France publishes 700 thousand job positions on „Eures“ (European Employment Services Network), and on „France travail“ there are even 1.2 million offerings. And the site of the German Federal Agency follows with 859 thousand offers. Italy is in fact far behind.
