Some Facts about How Silvio Berlusconi Invented his Party „Forza Italia“ and some Consequences
Some facts about the former political carrier and economic success of Silvio Berlusconi are published in a new television series in the Italian TV channel „TVLOFT.it“. In the center are the birth of the new party „Forza Italia“ and his founders Berlusconi victory at the 1994 elections: On 26 January 1994, with the famous video dubbed „Italy and the Country I Love“, Silvio Berlusconi announced his „descent into the field“. That of the 1990s was an Italy suffering the shocks of the international geo-political landscape and, at the same time, it was going through an internal earthquake: „Mani Pulite“ („clean hands“).
The only national party not to be wiped out by the investigations against a series of corruption scandals was the Communist Party, which became then suddenly the „PDS“ (Partito della Sinistra and later „PD“ = Partito Democratico). It even won – under the leadership of Achille Occhetto – the local elections in the main cities. There followed a blossoming of politicians, who imposed themselves as people not compromised with the „old regime“ of Democrazia Cristiana (DC) and their alllies and capable of bringing a new language to politics.
Among them was Silvio Berlusconi: the king of private TV, who knows the public's tastes and has understood that the Italian voter wants to be entertained. The old political parties of the left underestimates him and the power of his TV. Intellectuals labeled him as 'an impresario' who would soon go bankrupt. No one on that side of the fence understands that politics was no longer done in the squares or newspapers, but in front of the TV cameras.
The electorate came into contact with an attractive world, which conveys the image of Berlusconi as the man who can make everyone rich. This was the way how the entrepreneur, who was only interested in politics because he was on the verge of bankruptcy, imposed himself as a new figure, capable of interpreting the country. Many hints of the film episodes of TVLOFT are taken from the book „Il fatto personale“ by Antonio Padellaro (one of the founders of the newspaper Il Fatto Quotidiano), who reports anecdotes and unpublished facts about his relationship with Berlusconi.
Curious and amusing backstories that certainly do not make him regret Berlusconi and his political season, dominated by the abuse of the law for personal ends. From the rule every man has a price. From the disdain for women, who are destined to cheer the Dragon and his courtiers.
